An expansive natural marshland comprised of over 2,000 acres of land, Crane Meadows National Wildlife Refuge acts as a protected shelter for the vast number of migrating birds that traverse the area. The 3.7-mile Platte River Trail, parallels the river to Rice Lake, allows hikers the chance to see nature and the seasonal avian species that populate the area. The trail departs from the park headquarters, located about eight miles southeast of Little Falls just off County Road 35, also known as Iris Road, south of Rice Lake.
